Kalanchoe manginii

Small plant, big show from above 🎭

Family: Crassulaceae • Pot diameter: 10.5 cm • Height: ~30 cm • Hanging pot

Crassulaceae Succulent Bright spot Low watering Trailing habit

The Kalanchoe manginii is a trailing succulent with thin hanging stems and tubular coral–orange flowers that dangle like tiny bells. In a hanging pot it creates lush curtains of foliage that burst into colour mainly from late winter through spring, and often try again during the year when conditions are good. It needs very little care, loves a bright spot and is an ideal choice if you want flowers cascading downwards without complicated watering routines or demanding pruning.

Light

🌤️ Bright
Bright light with a few hours of gentle sun for better flowering.

Watering

💧 Sparse
Let the substrate dry well between waterings.

Temperature

🌡️ Mild climate
Ideally above 10°C, keep away from frost.

Substrate

🌱 Succulent mix
Fast-draining mix for succulents & cacti.

What makes it special

  • 🔔 Hanging coral–orange flowers that bring movement and colour.
  • 🌿 Succulent, fleshy stems that cope well with short dry spells.
  • 🧺 Perfect for hanging pots and high spots where you want greenery to flow downwards.

Ideal uses

  • 🪴 In a hanging pot by a bright window or on a sheltered balcony.
  • 🏡 As a hanging highlight on balconies with south or east exposure.
  • 🎯 In mixed succulent arrangements, as a “waterfall” of colour between upright plants.

Where to place it

Choose a bright spot with plenty of indirect light or gentle morning/late afternoon sun. Indoors, place it near a window away from cold drafts so its trailing shape can really stand out. Outdoors, sheltered terraces or balconies protected from heavy rain and frost are ideal.

Planting companions

  • With upright echeverias or Crassula for contrast between trailing stems and compact rosettes.
  • With other succulents in shallow pots for a mix of textures (upright, trailing and cushion-like forms).
  • With neutral cachepots in grey or white so the flowers steal the show.

Composition goal: movement, colour and low maintenance — ideal for balconies used daily.

Variety origin click to read

Taxonomic history: Kalanchoe belongs to the family Crassulaceae, along with well-known succulents such as Echeveria and Crassula. Species of the genus are mainly found in Madagascar and in dry, rocky regions of Africa and tropical Asia.

Habitat & distribution: Kalanchoe manginii originates from mountainous, rocky areas of Madagascar, where it grows in rock crevices with fast-draining substrate and strong light, but with relatively cool nights. From there it was introduced into botanical gardens and succulent collections worldwide.

Selection & improvement: The form offered for hanging pots has been selected for its strongly trailing growth, dense foliage and long-lasting flowering with coral–orange bell-shaped blooms.

Propagation & cultivation: It is propagated vegetatively (stem cuttings) to preserve its growth habit and flowering behaviour. In modern plant styling it is used mainly as a succulent for hanging pots, indoor spaces and protected balconies.

1) Substrate: Use a fast-draining mix for succulents & cacti with plenty of mineral content (e.g. pumice, perlite) so water doesn’t sit around the roots.
2) Watering: Water thoroughly and then allow the substrate to dry almost completely before watering again. In winter reduce watering significantly, especially in cooler rooms.
3) Position & temperature: Bright spot with good air movement, no frost and no prolonged temperatures below 10°C. Protect the pot from heavy rain to avoid excess moisture.

Why you’ll love it info
  • 🔔 Trailing coral flowers that make any balcony look professionally styled.
  • 🌿 Succulent with low demands, ideal for busy lifestyles.
  • 🧺 Perfect for hanging pots, shelves and corners you want to fill with movement.

🧠 Greenleaf for nerds — scientific facts no one asked for geek
  • 🧬 As a member of Crassulaceae, it uses CAM metabolism (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism), opening stomata mainly at night to limit water loss.
  • 🌡️ Flowering intensity is linked to day length (photoperiod) and mild temperatures; excessive heat can reduce bud formation.
  • 💧 Excess moisture in the substrate is more dangerous than a short dry period, especially in cool conditions.
  • 🔁 It can be refreshed by pruning old, woody stems and rooting young trailing segments.
How much light does it need? light

It prefers a bright position with plenty of indirect light or gentle morning/late afternoon sun. In very dark spots flowering is greatly reduced.

How often should I water? water

Water thoroughly and then let the substrate dry almost completely. In winter reduce watering significantly, especially in cooler rooms.

When does it flower? flowering

It usually flowers from late winter to spring, but in mild climates and with good conditions it may produce extra blooms during the year.

Can it stay outside in winter? winter

In regions without frost it can stay outside in a sheltered, dry spot. Where temperatures drop low, move it to a bright indoor area for winter.

Pretty Darn Good
Format: Kindle
So I’ve been on a omega kick and this definitely hit the spot. Madison was frustrating at times with how she acted towards Lucas, Gray, and Rian. It was like she said towards the end, she didn’t believe she deserved nice things. It would have been nice to hear from her best friends again. They kind of were there in the beginning and the gone except for mention of text messages received from them. I feel like her friends would have been great help in encouraging Madison to go with the pack and never give Brent another chance because he was toxic. I loved Rian. His personality was awesome. His humor. His ability to make Madison comfortable whenever she was feeling overwhelmed. And the fact he fell for her and she fell for him first. They are cute together. I do feel like Lucas was the odd man out though. Like Lucas didn’t develop as much of a relationship with Madison. I would have really liked to see more development in the relationship between them. It was also the same with him and Rian. There is really no relationship displayed. Most of the relationship being displayed is between Rian and Gray. Nevertheless, I loved reading about the dynamic that came to fruition during the entirety of this story. Madison finally got her happiness. And Brent finally got punched in the face. Everyone got exactly what they deserve.

Pack's Promise was okay but not great
Format: Kindle
Pack's Promise was okay but not great. I won't recommend it to anyone that I know. PRO: * Very likable characters * Lots of steamy scenes that are written very well * The spelling and grammar are good * The punctuation is good with the exception of using hyphens instead of commas. Lots of hyphens. Lots and lots of hyphens. CON: * Almost no interactions with any characters outside of Madison and the pack * Nearly no plot. They meet, get together for a heat, agree to make it permanent, done * Quite a few typos such as extraneous words, missing words and words out of order THINGS TO KNOW: * More steamy scenes than storytelling * A lot of MM & MMM, some MFMM during heat

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.
